Igneous

I know what volcanoes

Look like from the inside out.

I know how to build peace

From shards of

Pumice and broken

Red Obsidian—

But you will never accuse me

Of being more than a man

who dreams of creating

diamonds out of

Impossibilities.

I build huts out of

Ashes and stolen

Clay, and smile

When the condors find

Beauty in what I have created.

They only fear the heat

When the embers threaten

To touch the tip of their

Beak and singe their

Borrowed wings.

If I successfully balance the

Midnight blues,

And the shades of Damnation

That always found a way

To burn through my Sunday

Bests, will you

Finally accept me as a

Fire carpenter,

Or the Dragon that

Must be slain?
